The Freedom to Travel legislation, an Obama initiative, is gaining increasing attention, not only in the United States Congress, but also among Cuban-Americans.
In July 2000, the bill had more than 150 congressional signatories.
Perhaps equally important, last month's "Newsweek" magazine reported that a recent poll conducted at the University of Miama found that nearly two-thirds (64 percent) of Cuban-Americans now favor a unitateral lifting of the travel ban.
